Near the Kasilof River on the Kenai Peninsula, this eagle stood waiting for fish scraps, completely at ease around people and unaffected by my presence. For a moment, he just stood there and looked right at me, and I looked right back. There was something so calm and direct about that exchange. It felt like we were both simply taking each other in.
